h Dr. Steven Chao, MD, Ph. D regarding the forefront of research, treatment, and medication on the development of Alzheimer's Disease.
As many as 5.8 million people in the US were living with Alzheimer's Disease as of 2020, with the primary risk factor being age. (cdc.gov) The disease is primarily characterized by the formation and accumulation of amyloid plaques and neurofibrillary tangles in the brain, proteins that characterize the disease and are implicated in a decline of cognitive function and dementia. This workshop covered the history of the disease, the progression and pathophysiology of Alzheimer's, and the focus of current research and medications, as well as the importance of healthy lifestyle habits that may help delay the onset of neurodegenerative diseases in those at risk.
